Sustainability at Berkeley River LodgeAt Berkeley River Lodge, our remote wilderness location inspires us to tread as gently as possible. As a completely off-grid property, were powered by solar energy with battery backup, helping us operate lightly while surrounded by the Kimberleys untouched beauty.

Weve introduced a number of meaningful on-site practices, from collecting fresh eggs from our resident chickens to growing micro herbs, greens, and seasonal vegetables for the kitchen - in recycled freestanding baths from the villas. All organic waste is composted and returned to our gardens, creating a simple closed-loop system that supports both the environment and the guest experience.

To minimise power consumption, villas do not contain fridges and the new mini bar will be provided in a cooler for guests to take cold beverages and items from the Kimberley Pantry to their villa. Bathroom amenities are eco-friendly, as is complimentary sunscreen to ensure the Kimberley waterways that guests explore on curated experiences are protected. Water is sourced entirely from a bore beneath the Kimberley sands that filter it and local suppliers are engaged wherever possible, from the Broome coffee beans to nearby Kununurra rum.

We also take responsibility for the waste we cant repurpose on site. Cans are recycled through Wyndham, and our own glass crusher allows us to turn bottles into fine sand for use around the lodge. Wherever possible, we partner with suppliers who share our respect for the environment and our commitment to operating sustainably in this remarkable location.

These thoughtful measures help us protect the land were privileged to operate on, while continuing to deliver the exceptional comfort and cuisine our guests love.

Berkeley River Lodge is committed to delivering an Environmental Management Plan that was developed in cooperation with the Jiamiddie Aboriginal Corporation. This includes weed eradication and re-vegetation. Leaving minimal trace and lasting memories is fundamental to the barefoot luxury of a stay at Berkeley River Lodge.
